TMC to equip REV

The shipbuilding group Vard in Norway has been commissioned to build the ship. Vard has awarded TMC a contract to deliver a complete marine compressed air system including two instrument air compressors and two air dryers.

Independent scientists, marine experts, and innovative thinkers from all over the world will have access to the ship and the on-board technology. The objective is to increase knowledge and promote innovation to overcome some of the greatest challenges the world currently face, such as climate change and marine pollution due to increasing CO2 emissions, plastic and other pollution, overfishing and bycatch.

TMC’s contract value is undisclosed.

The vessel is currently under construction and is scheduled for delivery early 2021.

“We understand that REV is designed to operate in remote and vulnerable waters for long periods without additional supplies and/or external support. As our compressed air systems are designed to enable the vessel crew to easily and quickly conduct maintenance of our equipment, it is a good fit for the vessel requirements,” says Hans Petter Tanum, TMC’s director of sales and business development.

The REV vessel will be delivered from Vard to the company REV Ocean, which is  owned by Norwegian industry billionaire Kjell Inge Røkke. The CEO of REV Ocean is the former CEO of WWF Norway, Nina Jensen.

“Given the innovative concept and Mr. Røkke’s philanthropic approach, this is probably one of the most highly profiled vessels that will be built in Norway in the coming years. We take great pride in developing compressed air systems with low energy usage and low level of emissions to air. To be chosen as a technology supplier for this vessel is therefor a proud moment for us at TMC,” says Tanum.

The 183 metre long ship will have a capacity of 60 scientists and 30 crew. An independent scientific committee will evaluate and recommend research projects to pursue, and ensure the highest level of scientific standards and research quality that will improve our understanding of the problems facing the ocean. The hope is that this in turn will lead to concrete solutions.

TMC Compressors is the world’s leading supplier of compressed air systems for marine and offshore use. The company is headquartered in Oslo, with sales and service offices all over the world.
