Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding is constructing the 12 container ships for Hapag-Lloyd.

TMC’s scope of supply includes delivery of a complete compressed air system to each of the 12 vessels. Each compressed air system consists of two compressors, including one frequency-controlled compressor to the on-board SCR-system. Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) is an exhaust after-treatment technology used on ships to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOₓ) emissions from engines.

“These 12 container ships are impressive vessels that are designed to significantly reduce CO2 emissions compared to similar vessels with conventional propulsion systems. We look forward to supporting the operation of these vessels with our compressor technologies, including the SCR system. We take great pride in providing energy-efficient compressors, which in this case is an excellent match for the shipowners’ ambitions,” says Hans-Petter Tanum, TMC’s director of sales and business development.

All the 12 newbuildings will be equipped with state-of-the-art low emission high pressure liquefied gas dual-fuel engines. In addition, these vessels can be operated using biomethane, which can reduce CO2e emissions by up to 95 percent compared to conventional propulsion systems. The new ships will also be ammonia-ready. According to Hapag-Lloyd, the vessels will be delivered between 2027 and 2029.

TMC designs marine compressed air systems solely for offshore and marine use. The company is headquartered in Oslo, Norway.
