Why choose TMC’s compressors for your nitrogen system?

Chemical tankers, product tankers and gas carriers all use nitrogen (N2) on board and require feed air compressors to enable inerting, purging and blanketing of their cargo tanks.

Read: why shipowners need N2 feed air compressors.

Why is TMC’s feed air compressors the most relevant option for shipowners and shipyards worldwide?

Quality and experience

Firstly, TMC’s marine compressors are designed solely for marine and offshore use. We have never been involved with marinizing compressors that have originally been designed for land-based applications.

In total, TMC has supplied more than 20,000 marine and offshore compressors worldwide. We know what it takes to ensure trouble-free operation of your installation. This includes utilising the right technologies and solutions in the marine compressor system.

The right core technology

For example, TMC’s patented unique three-stage oil separation system is proven to deliver the cleanest feed-air in the market, and our in-to-out separation technology increases safety on board. Further, our patented thermal mixing valve eliminates risk for condensation in the compressor oil. Why clean and dry air is so important was explained in our previous article about N2 compressors.

All TMC compressors also come with cyclone water separators, built-in automatic level controlled drain system. Moreover, our electrical marine motors have space heater, thermistor protection and premium efficiency. They are designed for continuous duty in marine conditions, available for all medium voltages with or without variable frequency drives.

Proper testing and running

However, having the right technology only provides the foundation for reliable operations. Proper testing and running of the compressors are also essential for ensuring that the product quality is as high as possible and operating expenditure as low as possible.

That is why all TMC’s compressors are dimensioned and tested for continuous operation at 55 C°, and why we ensure full system and running tests on all manufactured units. In addition, TMC ensures running control by utilising a modulating intake valve that opens or close to control the flow of air into the system.

Monitoring and maintenance

Continuous monitoring of compressor performance and sufficient maintenance are also key to secure trouble-free operation and low operating costs. Hence, for monitoring purposes TMC provides an electronic controller with safety and shutdown functions, signals for remote monitoring and control, automatic service diagnostic system.

From a maintenance perspective, TMC’s philosophy and approach is that our compressors should be designed in such a way that the vessel crew easily can perform maintenance by themselves through following TMC’s instruction manuals. However, TMC also has a worldwide aftersales and service network – “TMC Care” – which is ready to support vessel crew 24/7 wherever the vessel is located. The team has a guaranteed response time of three working hours. Additionally, TMC has a spare parts delivery guarantee worldwide within 48 hours.

Crew comfort

Finally, to ensure comfort for the vessel crew who may be working in close proximity to the compressors or maintaining the compressors, TMC has ensured that noise emissions are as lows as possible. Both through utilising built-in vibration dampers on all compressors and because compressors come with a sound reduction canopy (open versions are available too).
